4 Theories on How Boruto Will Defeat the Shinju Creatures in Two Blue Vortex

The Rise of the Shinju Threat

Boruto can tap into the demigod form to eliminate all the Shinjus, but would he risk doing it? Since the Ten-Tails gained awareness and intelligence, theories about how they will go down have flooded the internet. Many significant casualties might happen, as the writers need to show us what happens when a Shinju feeds on its instinctual target. While some think of them as one-arc villains who are only there for the development of characters like Kawaki and others, we will discuss four potential ways for the conclusion of the Shinjus, with number three revolving around the most anticipated return of Momoshiki.

Let’s start with number one, which is all about sacrifice.

The Power of Sacrifice

This theory focuses explicitly on characters whose close ones are now Shinjus. Before the Soul Thorn Bulb was introduced, it was believed that the stakes of fighting the Shinju might be too high, as killing them would also mean the end of their human counterpart. But thankfully, that’s not the case at all. However, the Shinju enhancing the story’s stakes is still a massive possibility, and let me explain how.

Apart from Jura, all the other Shinju with a human version could possess some hidden weakness. The destruction of their tree should also kill them, which may be the last resort to handle these beings. Now imagine if this becomes a thing, and Sarada and Konohamaru must sacrifice their loved ones for the greater good. It will add an emotional layer to the story of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, which might help some characters attain their true potential.

Eida would be safe from the sacrificial bond, as Bug is not critical to the cyborgs, meaning his death will not affect them. However, if Code decides to burn down the tree of Bug, then Mamushi must technically die, and maybe that’s how we would get introduced to this new plot point. Otherwise, Daemon would destroy the Bug clone.

The Instinctual Targets and the Fate of Konohamaru

The second significant possibility not only gives mini plot armour to Kawaki but also establishes a solid potential for the death of a substantial character. I’m talking about one of the instinctual targets of these Shinjus and how their dying in the plot is inevitable. The point of making these living God trees have human targets is to show us their intellectual evolution that has made them crave intelligent species ever since becoming enlightened.

If we don’t see what happens after they devour their target, it will lead to an incomplete payoff, which is very unlikely. Almost half a chapter was dedicated to these Shinjus revealing their wills. This puts a red light on all the instinctual targets, but since we know Sarada and Himawari are vital to the plot, they will most likely not get devoured. Then we are left with Eida and Konohamaru, and it is pretty apparent who’s more likely to succumb to an irreversible fate among these two.

Daemon would do anything to protect Eida, but Konohamaru, unfortunately, may not be able to cope with the attack on Matsuri. Even the target of Ryu, the fifth Shinju, could also get devoured to show us what happens when these beings fulfil their instinctual will. The side quest of these creatures gives a kind of green light to Kawaki. Jura, wanting to kill Boruto anyhow, would need Kawaki to become his sacrificial Otsutsuki, which is why he won’t harm him unless the common instinctual goal of the Shinju is fulfilled.

The reason I think Konohamaru has very little time left in Two Blue Vortex is not just because of his weak existence but also because of the curse that members of the previous generation had to face. Konohamaru might face a fate similar to his uncle, Asuma Sarutobi, who died against Hidan. Other masters like Jiraiya and Hiruzen (the Third Hokage) had to give up their lives. Hiruzen died during the Konoha Crush while sealing Orochimaru. The death of Konohamaru would confirm the curse of the Sarutobis. Two generations of this clan have already died while protecting the village, so Konohamaru becoming the third one to give up his life is a vast possibility based on ongoing events.

It’s not just about the generational curse but also that Konohamaru cannot rise to the level of the ongoing enemies, no matter what. The writers could have given him some sage transformation or unique power-up if he were really that important to the plot. But based on the hints we’ve just discussed, I think Konohamaru will die sooner or later. With the death of Boruto’s former master, we would finally get to see what happens when a Shinju preys on its instinctual target.

Now let’s move on to the third theory, something most of you clicked on in this article for the demigod form of Boruto, eliminating the Shinjus once and for all.

momoshiki return boruto

Boruto’s Demigod Form and the Return of Momoshiki

It makes sense for Momoshiki to take over his vessel and go on a full-fledged rampage, destroying all these humanoid creatures. A pattern is going on with Boruto, where characters climb an extra cliff to eliminate the threat before them.

For Momoshiki, it was the joint effort of Naruto and Sasuke, concluding with the giant Father-Son Rasengan. Isshiki was a threat beyond Kaguya, so Naruto had to tap into a never-before-seen transformation, the Baryon Mode, to deal with him. Then the assault of Code happened, and Kawaki had to activate his newly acquired Karma to destroy him. The Limitless form of Code was the next big thing. Boruto first handled Daemon, the wielder of Shibai’s power, and then, with his Uzuhiko ability, Boruto might find a way to take down the Shinjus.

So, this makes one clear: no existing technique or plan is enough to deal with these tailed creatures, especially their boss, Jura, who knocked out Boruto with a single laser hit. The best way to deal with him must be to either develop new powers or upgrade existing ones. And what happens when an Otsutsuki with a thousand years’ worth of experience obtains a body that has learned a lot of broken techniques? Well, that’s your answer. Momoshiki could use Boruto’s body to give Jura the Shinju fight. He could utilize Boruto’s abilities better, which could mark the endgame for these creatures.

This also aligns with the analogy of characters tapping into newer forms of power to wipe out a significant threat. Momoshiki can amplify everything Boruto can do. The experience of the Otsutsuki should technically exceed Jura’s since the Ten-Tails was a juvenile at its first appearance, meaning that it came into existence not so long ago. Meanwhile, Momoshiki, who’s been alive for centuries, must be able to utilize his vessel to get rid of this monster perfectly.

But the return of Momoshiki is not just meant for the end of the Shinju saga. His comeback can be more dangerous than the humanoid Ten-Tails themselves, and here’s why I think so. The powers Boruto will use after amplifying them with Momoshiki’s essence are far beyond anything we’ve seen. Imagine if he decides to destroy the Leaf Village or the loved ones of Boruto—it would undoubtedly raise the stakes even higher than the Shinju threat.

The Power of Foresight: Momoshiki vs. Kashin Koji

Since Momoshiki has foresight, we must understand that all his moves will be calculated according to what would grant him the greatest advantage. However, a vast difference exists between his and Kashin Koji’s ability to look forward in time, which could be a key plot point. Prescience allows the user to see almost every possible future, allowing them to choose the best moves to ensure safe transcendence into what’s to come. Meanwhile, Momoshiki’s future sight can only see some points of time in the future, with 90% of them not coming true at all.

This means that Otsutsuki has a weaker variant of Ten Directions because he was on his way to attaining godhood and hadn’t become a four-dimensional being yet. The powers directly obtained from Shibai offer a wider variety to the user in terms of peeking into the future. Momoshiki only sees a point in the future and the possibilities surrounding that specific event. For example, when he looked into Naruto’s fate, he saw Kurama dying but didn’t foresee the possibility of him coming back. Furthermore, he saw blue eyes, which was Eida taking everything from Boruto. But, notably, he wasn’t aware of her omnipotence power until it randomly popped into his head in Chapter 76.

So, he pretended not to know that Eida was in Boruto’s life. When he talked to himself about her charm, it was a moment to provoke the vessel to trigger Kawaki, or his foresight was limited. But what makes Momoshiki’s future sight complex are the visions from the future. The early ones were all from Boruto’s point of view post-time skip, but the last one, according to Koji, should have taken place before omnipotence. The panel of Kawaki with a bloodstain, looking over Boruto, takes place in a timeline where he successfully killed him before Sarada interrupted.

This means Momoshiki’s visions are more or less random, and he’s still developing prescience, while Kashin Koji has a definite ability to see how many possible futures can turn real. But this doesn’t reduce the possibility for Momoshiki to see something Koji may have missed—an opportunity he could take to turn the odds in his favour if Boruto relies on his Karma seal at some point. Also, Momoshiki’s visions have always been through Boruto’s POV and not an overall outlook like Ten Directions, which can see what may or may not happen.

If you notice, Kashin Koji was surprised at Himawari’s connection to the Nine-Tails. Hence, Momoshiki can capture a future that Koji couldn’t see. But that’s not the end of Momoshiki’s role—it holds even greater significance, tied to Kawaki and his journey toward becoming an antagonistic figure in the story.

When Kawaki first noticed Boruto being afraid of Karma, he took a second look at his own Karma, which confirmed that his theory was correct all along: Momoshiki is still and will always remain a significant threat. That’s why the execution of Boruto is necessary. But after seeing what Momoshiki is capable of with Boruto’s new powers, Kawaki would be left shattered, and this may act as a huge trigger for him to grow even more vital. The path to becoming a Jigen-inspired individual will open for him, leading to a drastic transformation.

Kawaki’s Transformation and the Otsutsuki’s Future

Now, many questions arise here, like if Kawaki would go so far as to exterminate all Otsutsuki, why did he spare Boruto’s life in the future? I have already answered these questions with never-before-discussed angles in this blog. Being an asset to some characters, especially Sarada, Shinju is one of the most exciting hints that are too obvious to catch. Hidari was the only being to question his existence and purpose shortly before feeling the gut to prey on Sarada. Since this creature is based on Sasuke, it’s not unlikely for him to betray his boss to pursue what he thinks may be the right thing.

Facing defeat from Sarada and Boruto could be Hidari’s first step to realizing his ultimate destiny. The reason this theory holds some merit has something to do with Sarada herself. We know she won against Chidori in the tag team, but this doesn’t bring her to the level of Boruto and Kawaki by any means. So, the best way for Sarada to grow stronger would be under someone’s mentorship. If they can somehow change Hidari’s heart, possibly through the Mangekyō or talk no Jutsu, then he could become a vital asset for the good guys against the Shinju army.

It will also be an exciting plot twist, considering how all these beings will face different fates based on their motives. Mamushi would get destroyed by Daemon, Matsuri would devour Konohamaru, Jura might end up getting defeated by Momoshiki, and Hidari could greatly help Sarada’s character development.

I have an exciting take on Mamushi and Eida that I might write a dedicated blog about someday. Eida was the first female computer programmer, and omnipotence is like a programming language that changes everything about reality. If you think about it, a bug is like a glitch in the matrix in this context—if the programming gets flawed, it could create glitches that may be too hard to handle or could corrupt the entire system. So, what if, when Mamushi devours Eida, he activates the Shibai genes to create a glitch through omnipotence that wreaks havoc in the present timeline? I believe it could be plausible, but I need to do more research on it before writing a full-fledged article.
