Boruto is Becoming Momoshiki – Boruto & Kawaki’s Battle Against the Shinju
Boruto and Kawaki Face the Shinju
So we finally have the full spoilers for Chapter 15 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, and based on what Boruto said to Kawaki, the Momoshiki situation is way scarier than we initially thought. We’ll get to that, of course, but we also have Matsuri Shinju vs. Gaara and something very interesting regarding Kawaki’s latent power level. We have much to discuss, but let’s start from the top.
The person on the cover is Shinki Shinju, and the chapter title is “A Vibrant Life,” which I think is about Gaara, but we’ll see. The first page of the spoilers is pretty much Gaara vs. the Matsuri Shinju, and it seems like he’s trying to protect Shinki and his teammates using his sand. But to be clear, the Matsuri Shinju isn’t there for Shinki, his teammates, or even Gaara. She outright says she’s looking for Boruto Uzumaki’s associate, Kashin Koji and maybe Orochimaru.
Gaara is pretty much just in the way, and I find it interesting because she gives him the option to leave. She says that she’s not there looking for him, and he can leave with the kids. For some reason, though, he still wants to fight, likely because it’s an unknown enemy in his village. This makes sense, but Gaara is critically wounded, so it would make sense for him to retreat. However, he doesn’t, and just before one of the Claw Grimes devours him, he ends up being saved by Shinki, who then gets devoured.
I find it pretty crazy that Shinki saved Gaara by putting him in a sand shield. Even after Shinki gets stuck in a tree, he still protects Gaara using the sand shield. What’s crazy about this is that Matsuri doesn’t have the power to break the sand, so she has to leave Gaara. Shinki’s sand is one of the most broken defenses in the entire history of Naruto, or he’s using some other mechanic. She does mention something about a seal, and we know that Shinki has the power to use seals, so it could be that it’s not the sand itself that’s protecting Gaara but a sealing jutsu used in conjunction with the sand, which Shinki has done before. We’ll see what happens there.
Gaara is still stuck in the sand at this point because Shinki is the only one who can release it, so Gaara is currently dying within the sand shield, and they can’t reach him to heal him. His life is in the hands of a Shinju at this point in time, but we’ll see how that plays out eventually.
We also have this panel where the Shinki Shinju is found spying on the Shinju. He pulls him from the claw marks using his sand, which confirms that the Shinki Shinju can use Shinki’s sand ability, which is both awesome and scary. Now, Code goes crazy in this chapter because, for some reason, he thinks he is stronger than Shinju. After all, that’s the only reason someone would behave the way he does in this chapter.
It shows Code questioning the Shinjus about why they’re not going after Boruto and Kawaki since they’re Otsutsuki, and he needs them to consume the chakra fruit. Jura is so funny because he tells Code that if he’s so obsessed with Boruto, he can go ahead and kill him if he wants to since they only need Kawaki. Code, for some reason, says, “Who are you to tell me who I should kill and who I shouldn’t? That’s up to me to decide.” He goes on to declare that he’s the one who’s going to consume the chakra fruit and carry out Isshiki’s will.
This doesn’t faze Jura, but Jura says something interesting: that chakra fruits contain dense energy and a mass of genetic information of all life. He asks, “What would happen if we consumed it?” This is weird and crazy at the same time. It’s kind of a chicken-and-egg situation, but not exactly the same. The Ten Tails is the one who produces the chakra fruit. They create it, consolidate the power, and form it into a chakra fruit. Why would they need to consume the same power they produced? It’s just weird at that point. For example, why even produce the chakra fruit? Just keep the power and don’t produce the fruit.
But maybe it’s the case that they can’t choose not to produce the chakra fruit. It’s like the same thing with Karma, where the Otsutsuki can’t decide to resurrect in a body that they don’t prefer, which is what happened to Isshiki. So maybe it’s just genetically encoded into the Ten-Tails that they have to produce a chakra fruit and can’t decide to. Maybe something interesting will happen if they decide to consume it, so it’s crazy.
I do find it interesting, but we’ll see how it plays out. Of course, Code doesn’t take too kindly to this declaration, and he’s like, “Okay, let me attack you.” He tries to attack Jura through the claw mark with his claws—his hand- something that he does—and Jura just slaps away his hand, cutting it off without even moving. It seems as if he used the laser Bijuu bomb thing that he used on Himawari back in Chapter 12, I believe, or maybe it’s something different. Either way, he didn’t even move a muscle, and Code lost a hand. Mind you, Code is greatly above Jigen in power level, so this Jura is crazy—his power level is insane.
Code then proceeds to use the claw mark to stop the bleeding from his right hand, and Jura goes on to give him a new purpose: to kill Boruto and his associate, which will be Kashin Koji. If he succeeds, he will receive the chakra fruit. I’m unsure if Jura is messing with Code because maybe he’s just discovering what deceit is—he’s still learning—so that could be the case. But it could also be that he’s genuine, so we’ll see what happens.
Now, this is where we get to the interesting part—the conversation between Boruto and Kawaki. Kawaki approaches Boruto at the Hokage Monument and asks him why he didn’t reveal the truth about Omnipotence and what Kawaki did to Naruto. Boruto explains that it wouldn’t make sense; it would just cause more confusion, and that’s not good at this point. The goal is to defeat the humanoid Shinju.
Kawaki then asks Boruto what happened with Momoshiki and points out that Boruto still can’t control his karma. Boruto then explains that about two years ago, when Master faced off against Code, he used his karma for the first time since leaving the village. That’s when he felt something—a feeling of being taken over by Momoshiki or something close to that.
This is crazy because we didn’t know that Boruto used his karma seal in his fight versus Code. We’ve always wondered how Boruto escaped after Sasuke charged into Code. I know it wasn’t FTG (Flying Thunder God) because he learned that from Kashin Koji, so it makes more sense now that he either flew away or used karma—and it does seem that that’s what happened, based on what was said in this chapter.
Now, the thing with Momoshiki is even crazier or weirder than we thought. Boruto says that he stopped feeling like himself—it felt like he was dying, even though he was still conscious—and since then, he hasn’t used the karma seal. So it seems like it’s more than just Momoshiki coming forth and taking over Boruto’s body. It looks like Boruto is ceasing to exist, but I don’t think it’s because Momoshiki is gaining more control of Boruto’s body. I believe that Momoshiki and Boruto are becoming one entity. That’s why he was still conscious but felt like he was dying—he was becoming someone else, but he was still there and still had control.
People tend to forget that Boruto was merging his brainwaves with Momoshiki before the time skip, so that didn’t stop happening. But it does seem like the more Boruto uses the karma seal, the more this effect comes into play. I guess we’ll see.
Boruto also mentions that for the past three years, Momoshiki has been completely silent. Activating the karma seal may be the trigger that brings him out. Of course, Kawaki is tweaking when he hears this because that has been his biggest issue with Boruto this entire time.
Boruto then switches the conversation to the topic of Jura and the Shinju. He says they can’t handle them through ordinary means, especially Jura, and admits, “I can’t deal with him on my own.” This confirms that Boruto isn’t stronger than Jura, which I already knew and told you, but many disagreed. Well, here it is. Boruto also tells Kawaki to kill him if he goes berserk with Momoshiki, so we’re pretty much back to square one, like in Chapter 61, when he told Kawaki to kill him, which Kawaki indeed did. So we’ll see what happens this time around.
Boruto then tells Kawaki that he needs to get stronger, and he points out that Kawaki still has Naruto sealed. He suggests it would be better to release Naruto so he can train Kawaki, but he also says that maybe that’s not the best idea because they don’t have enough time to go through conventional means of training. I find this ironic because, if you go back to Chapter 58, I believe that during their sparring session, Kawaki wanted to take the quick and more vigorous route to gain power. In contrast, Boruto wanted to go the conventional route of ninja training to get stronger. But now, Boruto says, “We don’t have time for that, bro—you need to get stronger immediately.”
I’m not saying this contradicts Boruto’s belief system because Boruto got stronger by literally training. It just shows that different training methods apply to other situations. Boruto then tells Kawaki something he would have figured out later on—he tells Kawaki to ask Amado, saying that Amado has been hiding his true power. He goes on to say that, besides putting a limiter on Kawaki’s attack threshold, his defenses and restoration abilities could also be adjusted to surpass what they are now.
Then we cue Kawaki’s shocked Pikachu face. Amado, who seems to be watching Boruto through Kawaki’s eyes, is also mentioned. Boruto goes on to say that Amado did this because he would be in trouble if Boruto died. Now, this could mean multiple things. Suppose you assume that Amado did this while he believed Kawaki was Boruto and Boruto was Kawaki. In that case, it likely implies that he did this to protect Boruto, thinking Boruto was Kawaki, the one with the karma seal to resurrect his daughter. But if that isn’t the case, and Amado did this when he replaced Kawaki’s hand, it might simply be a method of control, which Boruto hints at later in the chapter. It could go either way, and I guess we’ll see when the full chapter comes out.
Kawaki then tells Boruto that he still wants to kill everything related to the Otsutsuki—the Shinju, the Ten-Tails, and even Boruto himself. They all must die. But for now, Kawaki is going to work with Boruto to defeat the Shinju—a somewhat temporary truce, per se. Boruto smiles and says, “Don’t drag me down, bro.” Kawaki replies, “Same to you, piece of trash,” which is insane, but okay, it’s fine.
That’s it for the spoilers of Chapter 15 of Boruto Two Blue Vortex. I left out some other things because I don’t want to give you every detail. Wait until the chapter comes out. It’s coming out in a few days, and then we can go in-depth on the full chapter in the review.
