Kawaki’s Karma and Kokugan Powers Fully Explained

Chapter 23 of Boruto Two Blue Vortex dropped some insane details about Kawaki’s new powers that 90% of fans totally missed because of all the non-stop action. Today, we’re diving into the Kokugan and the legacy of Isshiki’s Eight Paths, which Kawaki inherited after Amado’s limiters were removed in Chapter 23.

These powers came to him along with Isshiki’s Karma, and it changes everything in Boruto. Kawaki has basically become the embodiment of raw power and control, and the whole story behind his abilities and his eye runs way deeper than it looks on the surface. In Boruto, the Kokugan isn’t just some overpowered eye — it’s a symbol tying Kawaki to one of the oldest forces and teachings. We’re gonna break down every part of Kawaki’s power step by step.

We’re splitting it into four topics: Kokugan, chakra, physical abilities, and Karma. But let’s kick things off with Karma.

Kawaki’s transformation isn’t just impressive — it’s next level. In this next section, you’ll see how Karma became the key to his overwhelming new strength. Karma transfers DNA, chakra, and abilities — and that’s exactly the power Amado was trying to suppress.

It’s both a symbol of unique power and a curse. We’ve seen Kawaki tapping into his Karma during this fight. But Karma isn’t just some external tool — it’s fully integrated into his body and DNA. Before Kawaki even used it, it was already fully unlocked because Amado’s limiters had been deactivated. We know Karma has different levels of power and mastery.

As we’ve heard before from Code, at a certain stage, the user gains access to the Otsutsuki’s knowledge and combat experience. Looking at Kawaki’s fight with Jura in the manga, we see him using Isshiki’s exact techniques. He uses the black rods just like Isshiki did. He targets the torso the same way Isshiki did when he attacked Naruto — specifically aiming to immobilize him.

And remember when Kawaki first appeared? He stabbed Jura straight through the head. Before his limiters were removed, Kawaki couldn’t pull off stuff like that — he never showed anything remotely close. It feels like his mindset and morals have shifted a bit too. Plus, as far as we know, Kawaki couldn’t even use the black rods without activating his eye before.

Now? He’s using them in his base state. That suggests his fusion with Isshiki’s power is 100% complete. We’ve also seen him using eye-based abilities without actually activating the Kokugan. As far as I can tell from reading the manga, Kawaki was able to shrink without activating the Kokugan. That’s absolutely wild.

If he can use this stuff without activating the eye, then his Kokugan may have gained brand-new abilities. I’m really curious to see what he’ll be capable of when he does fully activate the eye. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The real madness kicks in once we get into the Kokugan itself — and I’ve got several theories about what this eye can actually do.

Let’s recap what we know: Kokugan allows the user to perform the Sukunahikona technique — shrinking themselves, any inanimate object, or non-living matter within their field of vision. Along with it, there’s Daikokuten, which lets the user store anything they shrank into a dimension where time is frozen, and then summon it back whenever they want. In the anime, the Kokugan also let Isshiki see life energy.

The shape of the Kokugan resembles the Dharma Wheel, linking it to recurring Buddhist themes connected to the Otsutsuki clan. Before its official name was revealed, fans often called it “Dharmagan,” “Dharamgan,” or “Dharmgan.” This Buddhist symbol represents cosmic order and the path to enlightenment. The Noble Eightfold Path, depicted in the Wheel of Samsara, lines up surprisingly well with the Kokugan abilities we’ve seen Kawaki use.

In the Boruto manga, this path seems to translate into eight distinct powers:

  1. Anima – the first of the eight Siddhis. Mastering this lets you shrink your body to any size — even down to the atomic level — but not enlarge it. Lord Hanuman, while spying in Lanka searching for Sita, shrank down so tiny that the demons couldn’t spot him.
  2. Mahima – basically the opposite of Anima. This allows the user to enlarge their body to gigantic proportions. Hanuman used Mahima to lift Mount Sumeru and bring back the Sanjeevani herb to save Lakshmana. Lord Vishnu, in his Brahma avatar, once covered the entire universe in just three steps.
  3. Garima – increases body weight, making it immovable. When Angad visited Ravana’s palace, he used Garima so that no one could move his foot. Hanuman, disguised as an old monkey, prevented Bhima from lifting his tail using this Siddhi.
  4. Laghima – the opposite of Garima. It reduces body weight to that of a feather, allowing levitation or flight. Hanuman and other demigods used this ability to soar through the skies.
  5. Prapti – allows the instant acquisition of desired objects by materializing them out of thin air. In ancient Hindu stories, gods and demons created weapons and gifts using Prapti. In ancient Hindu stories, gods and demons created weapons and gifts using Prapti.
  1. Prakamya grants a range of abilities — extending life, teleportation, underwater breathing, and adapting to any environment.
  2. Isitva allows control over nature — summoning rain, moving the earth, controlling the wind, and more. People with Isitva could instantly grow trees or summon storms.
  3. Vasitva — mind control over people and animals. This Siddhi allows you to tame wild beasts or calm unstable minds. Vishnu’s avatars used Vasitva to bring both animals and humans under control.

The Power of Manifestation sits at the peak of these abilities — changing reality at will, creating and reshaping space, form, events, even entire worlds.

This strongly echoes Kawaki’s potential link to Eida’s Shinjutsu abilities. But how does this tie back to Isshiki and Kawaki?

The mythological inspiration for Isshiki Otsutsuki comes from Japanese folklore — specifically the story of Issunboshi, a tiny warrior who defeated a giant using a magical hammer and bowl. The hammer, containing eight powers, became the basis for Isshiki’s abilities.

Like Issunboshi, Isshiki manipulates size and matter, travels between dimensions, and his sealing bowl for Naruto mirrors the mythical bowl.

Karma itself is the Otsutsuki’s method of resurrection. The Karma bearer becomes a vessel whose genetics are rewritten until their body turns into a full copy of an Otsutsuki.

Karma also grants access to space-time ninjutsu, opening portals into other dimensions. Isshiki’s outfit is decorated with eight tomoe symbols that Kaguya also has — but she only has six, pointing to her connection to the Six Paths. Isshiki’s eight tomoe emphasize his superiority and uniqueness among the Otsutsuki.

Kawaki’s abilities aren’t just for show — they’re the key to his entire strategy. He can change the size of objects, move between dimensions, and manipulate matter, which makes him almost untouchable. Kawaki can use Kokugan without activating Karma, and he can even tap into his eye’s powers without activating it — proving that Kawaki is now a full-fledged Otsutsuki, just like Boruto.

But there’s something else that most people missed. In the earlier chapters of the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, even before the timeskip, when Kawaki was fleeing the Leaf, he used his eye techniques to shrink himself. He pulled this off several times, even though his chakra reserves were already drained and his stamina was nearly gone. That right there tells us his chakra levels have also grown.

But Kokugan is only half the story. The real game-changer that brings him closer to Jura’s level is his chakra after the limiters were removed. And that smoothly brings us to the topic of his chakra.

First, let’s go back to what chakra even is. Originally, chakra belonged to the God Tree. When Kaguya Otsutsuki ate the fruit of the God Tree, she became the first person in history to possess chakra. With her newfound power, she ended all the wars plaguing the lands.

Her sons, Hamura and Hagoromo Otsutsuki, were the first humans born with chakra from the start. As Hagoromo — better known as the Sage of Six Paths — spread chakra throughout the world, it became a form of life energy that every person produces to some extent.

Those who completely exhaust their chakra reserves die. The energy produced in chakra points — which mostly surround and connect the organs that generate chakra — circulates through the entire body via a network called the Chakra Pathway System, which is basically the chakra version of the cardiovascular system.

Now, why do I think his chakra increased? Well, in the Naruto world, there have been many ways to boost chakra levels — from hardcore training to implanting Hashirama’s cells. But I’m more interested in the Otsutsuki angle. Even after death, Hagoromo could pass on chakra to Naruto and Sasuke.

Let me remind you — if you forgot — after listening to Naruto and Sasuke and accepting both of their answers, Hagoromo gave each of them a share of his power, splitting it equally between the two.

This allowed Naruto to awaken the Six Paths Sage Mode and gave Sasuke the Rinnegan. This clearly shows that the Otsutsuki have a special bond with chakra — they’re essentially its origin. So I firmly believe that Karma absolutely boosts the chakra volume of its bearer, even if that’s never directly stated.

If we go back to the events before the timeskip — especially the Borushiki vs. Code fight — it’s pretty obvious Boruto’s chakra reserves are way bigger now. Momoshiki was able to unleash a ton of giant Rasengans. Normally, with just his own chakra, Boruto couldn’t even pull off a Rasengan slightly larger than standard — we’ve seen that plenty of times in the anime.

There were always hints that he didn’t have massive chakra reserves like Naruto. Physically, he just wasn’t capable of that. But during that battle, once Karma activated, suddenly he had huge chakra reserves to throw around all these chakra-draining techniques. So yes, both of them now have enormous chakra pools.

After Kawaki’s limiters were lifted, he got access to a huge energy boost. And we can’t forget that physical abilities also impact chakra volume. You’ve noticed that too, right?

And with that, we slide right into the topic of physical abilities.

As we’ve seen, Isshiki’s speed, strength, and reaction time are off the charts. We know that Karma boosts all of these stats upon activation. But Kawaki showed improvements in all these areas even before activating Karma.

This most likely has Amado’s fingerprints all over it. Yep — Amado’s handiwork. Because Kawaki’s body isn’t just any body — he’s a cyborg. His arms turn into giant blades, and that alone is part of why there’s a certain “safe word” floating around — because he’s not entirely human.

His body can be fine-tuned and enhanced. Most likely, Kawaki’s regenerative abilities have been upgraded thanks to Amado’s tech.

That would naturally mean his reflexes could also be improved. If Amado can even access Kawaki’s eyes and see through them like surveillance cameras, then tweaking his physical stats would’ve been a piece of cake for him.

Let’s not forget — Amado is a highly intelligent man with advanced scientific and technical knowledge, and Kawaki himself has called him a technological genius.

His skills allowed him to create Inners with abilities that surpassed even Jigen. And let’s not forget that Amado harvested Shibai’s DNA and implanted it into every one of his cyborgs. He’s mastered Shinjutsu and even created his own artificial Karma. This guy has crossed a threshold even Orochimaru never managed to reach. He’s a true genius — and a seriously dangerous one.

Now that we’ve broken down every key aspect of Kawaki’s power — from his Kokugan eye and massive chakra reserves to his insane physical capabilities and the depths of his Karma — it’s clear that he’s no longer just a guy with Karma. Kawaki has evolved into a unique hybrid, merging Isshiki’s power, Amado’s technology, and Otsutsuki knowledge.

This completely shifts the balance of power in the Boruto world and opens up endless possibilities for the story going forward. The upcoming chapters promise not only to show new sides of his abilities but also the consequences these transformations will bring — which means the fight for the shinobi world’s future is only just beginning.

And I think Boruto’s fear of Kawaki isn’t baseless. It’s because Kawaki has now become far stronger than he was before, and his power has surpassed the limits of any ordinary ninja. This turns him into an opponent with incredible versatility and danger.

On top of that, Kawaki now possesses enormous chakra reserves and enhanced physical abilities — both boosted by Amado’s tech. He’s no longer just a human — he’s become something close to a hybrid Otsutsuki-cyborg, making him nearly invincible and insanely durable.

On a psychological level, Kawaki has already shown that his moral compass has shifted. He’s grown more determined and ruthless, which only makes him even more threatening in battle. In the end, Boruto now faces an opponent who’s not only stronger than him, but also far more pragmatic and cold-blooded.

What do you think?

  • How much will Kawaki’s role change now that he’s unlocked Kokugan and had his limiters removed?
  • Which Kokugan abilities do you find most promising, and why?
  • Do you think Kawaki will be able to fully control Isshiki’s power, or will it end up consuming him?
  • How much will Amado’s influence over Kawaki’s body and abilities affect the outcomes of future battles?
  • Do you believe Kawaki’s personality will change even more after this massive power-up?
  • What are your theories on how Karma will evolve and its role in Kawaki and Boruto’s destinies?
