Momoshiki’s New Plan & Silence In Two Blue Vortex – Will His Return Impact The Story?
After 15 chapters (A Vibrant Life), Boruto finally got some intel on Momoshiki in Two Blue Vortex, and his groundbreaking comeback is being set up. I believe this comes from Boruto, who claims that Momoshiki hasn’t spoken a word for years. This means that the last time we saw him talking to Boruto in Chapter 80 was the last time we had a conversation with him in the story. Daemon and the vessel don’t seem to have had an offscreen conversation, but one thing is clear: Momoshiki did emerge during the infamous Code fight.
This emergence is terrifying, especially since Boruto stopped using Karma after that day. He explains it as a state where he felt like dying while still being conscious. This suggests there’s more to the time-skip fight where Sasuke succumbed to Claw Grimes. As we can see, Boruto is not using the Karma here, but based on what he revealed to Kawaki, he did use the Karma seal in that fight, which must have been an offscreen event.
Here’s where it gets interesting. We know that before the time skips, Momoshiki fought with Code, when he could have annihilated the King of the Claw, Grimes. However, Code never hinted at a rematch happening; rather, he reminded Boruto about the helpless situation from two years ago. So, could it be that Momoshiki escaped the moment he took over? Or is Code hiding the fact that the Otsutsuki crushed him? This is one of the mysteries for us to decode.
In today’s blog, we must also figure out why Momoshiki is silent, what he’s cooking up, and how his onscreen debut in Two Blue Vortex could change everything. The faithful return of Momoshiki could alter the fates of many people in the story. He is the reason Boruto’s life got so much worse, turning from a prodigy into a threat to the people around him and the victim of Omnipotence. The Prodigy lost everything, thanks to the entity sealed inside of him. Now that Momoshiki has been missing for over three years, Boruto is shocked.
Boruto is trying to reduce his Karma usage to prevent Momoshiki’s potential emergence. But despite his silence, Momoshiki is still present, which has led Boruto to fear the worst. There’s a good reason why Momoshiki’s silence affects Boruto so much. Think of it like a child in your house who constantly screams and makes noise, which, while annoying, also lets you know where they are. The problem arises when the child suddenly goes quiet, which can either mean they’re gone or lost—both terrifying scenarios.
Boruto knows Momoshiki is still there, and while his intel used to be helpful at times, his complete disappearance must be frightening for Boruto, who has no idea what’s going on. So, what could be the true reason behind Momoshiki’s mysterious silence? It could be that he realized that his plans got spoiled whenever he opened his mouth. From foretelling the blue-eyed prophecy to reminding Boruto of his fate, nothing has gone according to Momoshiki’s plans.
Perhaps he blames himself for these failures. Even when he explained Omnipotence to Boruto, Momoshiki believed that the vessel would surrender his consciousness due to how helpless the situation seemed. But since Boruto decided to fight back and use Momoshiki’s intel to his advantage, it must have made Momoshiki realize something was wrong. He played several wrong moves, and now he needs to redeem himself so he doesn’t miss his chance to fulfill his new plans—the same ones destroying Boruto, who knows nothing about them.
In Part 1, Boruto knew his blue eyes would take everything away from him, so he subconsciously absorbed that prophecy into his psyche. This is how he acted better when the prophecy came true. In other words, Momoshiki prepared Boruto for the worst outcome. If Momoshiki had never interfered after making Boruto his vessel, he might have already fulfilled his plan, as there would have been no way for Boruto to know what was happening. The occasional takeovers, the revelation that Boruto is now an Otsutsuki, and the fateful twists—all of this could have gone unnoticed.
But because of his past mistakes, Momoshiki is now trying to correct them by abandoning his vessel. He spoke to Boruto in Part 1 because he was confident that events would play out in his favor. Little did he know that Boruto was protected by the heavens, a blessing that had helped him escape death numerous times.
Now, Momoshiki’s new plan involves patience and not giving his opinions to the vessel. If he wants full control of Boruto’s body, it’s better to keep the plans to himself instead of revealing them with overconfidence and failing again. I could have suggested that Kashin Koji’s intel about prescience and how fate is not a linear line in this universe might have been the reason behind Momoshiki’s silence. Maybe Momoshiki didn’t fully understand this aspect of fate and destiny until now—how some odds can alter based on minor actions. However, considering he claimed to know (Divine Tree), I don’t think this was something.
In this case, it would have made sense for him to whisper something to Boruto before occasionally meeting Kashin Koji. But since Momoshiki’s silence dates back to when the vessel went rogue, it’s clear that something is being cooked by the Otsutsuki, which doesn’t involve Kashin Koji or the futures he foresaw. Not to mention, Momoshiki also has his foresight, so perhaps he’s calculating the best move to hijack Boruto, which is why he hasn’t spoken in three years. He must be planning hard not to lose his only chance this time.
While he technically has many chances available, I think he’s focusing on a single opportunity. This resembles how he gambled everything on the blue eye’s prophecy last time. There must be a similar event that he’s betting everything on without informing Boruto. Kashin Koji’s prescience could also be a factor in silencing the Otsutsuki. Koji’s knowledge of Shinjutsu might enables him to bypass prescience, and Momoshiki knows that by intervening in Boruto’s life and lowering his guard, Koji could see his future actions.
Thus, the best way to prevent someone from seeing your future through prescience is to stop speaking about your plans or expressing any detail that could manifest into a possibility. When someone using prescience is unaware of the definite possibilities, it becomes difficult to foresee a future where these events occur. In Momoshiki’s case, he couldn’t foresee his future role and actions because Kashin Koji was unaware of Momoshiki’s current state and the reason behind his silence. This might be because Momoshiki’s influence in this world has vanished, which was part of his plan.
Momoshiki knows how to play his cards well to secure a great future. The Otsutsuki is learning from his mistakes, and Boruto somehow knows this is a bad sign. Momoshiki’s return would be one of the most unexpected events in the story. Neither the Iens have given us hints about what’s happening, nor has Momoshiki revealed his plans. This is why even Kawaki mentioned that the situation has worsened.
Another theory I have about how Momoshiki bypassed prescience relates to Himawari. Kashin Koji knew almost everything about Boruto’s future, but one thing he couldn’t predict was Kurama’s comeback. Boruto and Koji were shocked when they learned about Himawari’s connection to the Nine Tails. This means it wasn’t something they foresaw in any of the future. While we can speculate about certain unknown factors, what if it’s more than just not having certain people in mind? I believe the meetings of the subconscious cannot be seen through Senrigan, prescience, or any Shinju.
This implies that if Momoshiki interacts with Boruto within, Kashin Koji won’t be able to catch it. If Momoshiki is silently preparing for something in Boruto’s subconscious, what if he’s training inside Boruto’s mind, preparing for a fight to take control of the body? This could be a real fight within Boruto’s subconscious where both entities clash to claim control. Think of it like when Kurama attacked Himawari in her subconscious when they first met. He could have taken over her body, just like how he used to outrage in the past.
In Boruto’s case, Momoshiki may challenge him in a fight within their subconscious to determine who deserves control of the body. Looking at how Boruto uses the Karma in the future, it seems like he won this potential fight against Momoshiki. Otherwise, Boruto wouldn’t be using Karma so fearlessly.
Let me know in the comments if you’d like to see a Boruto vs. Momoshiki battle sometime. Now that we understand the reason behind Momoshiki’s silence and how he’s slowly taking away Boruto’s peace of mind, we can look forward to the next big revelation.
Let’s move on to the last time Momoshiki appeared in the story: the offscreen fight between Code and Sasuke, where Boruto was supposed to use the Karma seal. According to Boruto, it was like a conscious state but felt like death. He doesn’t seem to have any concrete memory of the takeover, and even Code never mentioned meeting Momoshiki during his second encounter with Boruto.
Well, it could be that Code simply escaped since he had already lost an eye, and lingering any longer would have led to his death. Momoshiki could have gotten rid of the claw grimes, and after seeing how Sasuke is now gone forever, he might have taken a sigh of relief before losing control of Boruto’s body. Or, it could be that he used his foresight to see Sasuke’s future and discovered the Shinju awakening and how difficult it would be for his vessel. This might explain why he left Sasuke’s tree untouched, as it is sourcing chakra to a humanoid Ten-Tails.
So, either Momoshiki’s emergence during the Code fight was brief, or he calculated something after taking over Boruto, which explains his silence. Everything seems to be going well for him, and he doesn’t want to ruin anything by unnecessarily speaking to the vessel. The thoughts of Momoshiki could hinder his plans or prevent them from happening altogether. He’s careful not to spill any beans with Boruto that could obstruct his ultimate goal.
But one thing that has kept the hype for Momoshiki’s return alive is his supposed showdown with the Shinju. We don’t know whether Momoshiki uses them to his advantage or sees them as obstacles to his plans. Still, a potential battle between the Otsutsuki and the leader of the Shinjus has created a lot of excitement. This is mainly because Borushiki seems to be the only one capable of potentially destroying Jura.
How likely will they clash, and could the outcome favor Momoshiki? Boruto claims he cannot defeat Jura alone and needs Kawaki’s help to destroy him. He even talked about his limits and how Amado tampered with his offensive abilities. Assuming Kawaki, without his limiters, is on par with Isshiki, and Boruto believes he would help fight the Shinjus, what if Momoshiki—now utilizing a far more powerful vessel—goes against Jura, the boss Shinju? How close would the fight be, and does Borushiki stand a chance?
Realistically speaking, Momoshiki does have the upper hand in this fight based on the techniques that his vessel has obtained. First, the planetary chakra absorption he mixes with his Rasengan to creates Otsutsuki-level attacks. Considering how diverse Momoshiki is in utilizing Boruto’s powers, he can amplify this chakra absorption to create giant Rasengans with the potential to destroy entire planets. In other words, he could amplify the Uzuhiko to destroy his opponents, be it the Ten-Tails leader Jura or anyone else.
While Boruto claims he cannot defeat the Shinju boss alone, he doesn’t consider the power of Momoshiki, who can utilize his newly acquired abilities with centuries of experience. Technically, Momoshiki should surpass Jura in experience, too, assuming his powers originate from when the Juvenile Ten Tails came into existence. So, it’s highly likely for Borushiki to emerge as the victor in a full-fledged battle with Jura.
However, one angle makes me think Momoshiki might not be a fit match for Jura. Remember when Isshiki was defeated, and Momoshiki suddenly appeared, expressing surprise at the Otsutsuki’s defeat? This suggests that Isshiki was a significant threat and that Momoshiki didn’t expect Naruto and the others to defeat him. This could be why he didn’t join the fight—maybe he didn’t want to get on the bad side of a fellow Otsutsuki. Or, he might have known Boruto wasn’t strong enough to fight Isshiki.
Assuming something similar happens with the Shinju boss Jura, it makes sense for Momoshiki to remain silent and monitor everything from the sidelines. He must know there is no way for Boruto and his allies to defeat Jura alone. Getting Kawaki’s limiters removed and forming an alliance to fight the Shinjus will only increase their chances rather than guaranteeing an absolute future victory.
