The Mystery of the Ten Tails Origin, the Thorn Soul Bulb, and the Otsutsuki in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex

thorn soul bulb

Boruto’s Two Blue Vortex story is filled with a lot of mystery, whether that’s what happened to Momoshiki, the location of Shibai’s soulless body, or even the reason why Kawaki decides to end the Shinobi system. Most of this will be revealed in time, of course, but one thing the recent chapter hinted at was the true origins of the Ten-Tails, which came in the form of the Thorn Soul Bulb. Now, the implication of this is absolutely insane, given the fact that the Ten-Tails are also what created the universe, as stated in Naruto’s data book. So, what is the link between the Ten-Tails, the Thorn Soul, and even the Otsutsuki? And why does Kashin Koji possess information on any of this? Well, this all goes back to Amado, of course, and I’m here to explain why.

You see, what a lot of people didn’t notice is that the design of the Thorn Soul Bulb is very similar to the marking on Jiraiya’s clothing. This is represented by the bulb possessing a Rinnegan in its center while being surrounded by nine thorns. Similarly, the marking on Jiraiya’s clothing also has a Rinnegan symbol in its center and nine dots circling it. These dots likely represent the points of said thorns, as does the Rinnegan symbol, which represents the eye itself. This means that the symbol isn’t unique to Jiraiya, but there’s also a reason why he has it, and the others don’t.

Now, what’s more important is the connection to Amado, which comes in the form of Delta. You see, this might seem a bit superficial in a sense, but I’ve never been one to ignore hints or threads that could lead somewhere. So, suffice it to say that when I saw the link between these two entities, there wasn’t a timeline for which I would have excluded this information from this article. Now, the link I’m referring to is the similarities between the Thorn Soul Bulb and Delta’s drone. As you can see, the drone also has an eyeball along with five protruding legs shaped similarly to the thorns on the Thorn Soul Bulb. But what’s more interesting is the fact that the drone was used to transfer Delta’s consciousness into another cloned body, which is what Jiraiya plans to do with the Thorn Soul Bulb as well.

Now, of course, this isn’t a one-to-one comparison. Hidari’s resurrection will likely take place due to the power of the vines he used to heal himself in chapter 12 of Two Blue Vortex, which is actually another mystery. Still, we’re going to save that for another article. The point is that the bulb likely carries Hidari’s consciousness, similar to how the drone carried Delta’s, which is likely why Boruto believes that he can use it to save Sasuke.

Now, the reason why this is very important to consider in the grand scheme of things is that Amado created Delta and the entire transfer process, which likely means that he either came up with the idea himself or at least he was inspired by something elseโ€”that something else being the Thorn Soul Bulb. Now, this once again goes back to Kashin Koji saying that it’s the same as what he saw before, which means that it’s not something he heard about; it’s something he saw with his own eyes. He even goes as far as saying the name of the item itself, which corresponds with what Jiraiya calls it as well. This means that Kashin Koji himself, not Boruto, had seen this before, or at least he was told what the name was. I mean, Boruto even goes on to state that he was told that he could use it to save Sasuke, which means that someone, possibly Kashin Koji himself, was either told this or he saw it himself being used sometime in the past.

This, of course, links back to Amado because he also created Kashin Koji as well and worked with him closely for years. So, suffice it to say that Kashin Koji was well-informed when it came to Amado’s work and research. So, if he were to learn something like this from someone, it would be Amado. But then again, why would Amado have a Thorn Soul Bulb, and where would he get it from? Well, you see, this all goes back to Shibai Otsutsuki and the body he left behind. Amado also revealed this in chapter 75. He claimed that there was one son of Otsutsuki, known as Shibai, who pretty much ascended into godhood after consuming multiple chakra fruits and resurrecting them over and over again. That granted him amazing powers such as omnipotence and the reflection ability Daemon possesses. In fact, its cells were transplanted into the bodies of Eida and Daemon, which is how they also came to possess those abilities. So what I’m getting at here is that Amado didn’t just have Shibai’s discarded body lying around over 5,000 years later. Instead, what he actually extracted those cells from was the Thorn Soul Bulb Shibai left behind after he discarded his body.

Now, of course, I know, I know, it was never stated that Otsutsuki could do this, so this is headcanon, which is true, but that’s kind of the point of a theory blog, right? But I want to drive this home, so look at it this way: a key thing to notice, or something that everyone missed in chapter 12, was the fact that the Thorn Soul Bulb formed after Hidari’s body was completely eviscerated by Kawaki, which means that he was able to reform using the tiny particles remaining from his body. This also likely means that the bulb was always inside Hidari’s body. Still, Kawaki destroyed it in that blast, and it just went on to reform later on. The second option is that the bulb was only created after the death of the Shinju using its remains. Either way is fine for this theory, of course, but I believe that when Shibai left his body behind, it wasn’t that his spirit just detached from his body and left his physical coil intact. I believe that he was able to shed his physical coil, similar to what happened when the soul summoned by Ten Tails returned to the pure land. The particles of his then-discarded body proceeded to form the Thorn Soul Bulb, similar to what happened with Hidari, with whom Amado then came in contact.

Now, Amado knows who Shibai is, which has to do with Isshiki Otsutsuki because I believe that Isshiki was the one who found the bulb and gave it to Amado. He was then able to extract cells from the bulb itself and implant them into Eida, Daemon, and Code, which endowed them with one or more of his abilities, similar to how this bulb likely created using Sasuke’s essence endowed Hidari with one or more of Sasuke’s abilities, which is why he’s able to use Chidori.

chidori

Now, this implies that there’s some connection between the Shinju, the Ten-Tails, and the Otsutsuki because Shibai wasn’t a Shinju, obviously, and we’ve never seen an Otsutsuki transform into a Thorn Soul Bulb. So, how can we then link one to the other? Well, this, of course, requires us to take some liberty with Naruto’s lore. You see, I believe that the Ten-Tails are genetically directly related to the Otsutsuki. Now, this might sound crazy, but this logic is actually supported in the actual series. First, only the Otsutsuki can consume a chakra fruit created by the Ten-Tails. It’s not just a matter of being too powerful, but more so non-Otsutsuki’s not being compatible. This is then further backed up by the fact that anyone who tried to consume the stomach wall of a Bijuu in order to gain its power ended up dying. Yet you did have two individuals who were able to accomplish this, the Gold and Silver Brothers. This is because they were genetically descendants of Hagoromo Otsutsuki, which once again supplements the idea that Otsutsuki has a genetic compatibility with the Tailed Beasts.

Even on the flip side of this, the fact that the Ten-Tails can only evolve into a Divine Tree after consuming Otsutsuki, it simply cannot fulfill its instinctive function of absorbing the life of a planet and producing a chakra fruit without first consuming the essence of another species. Also, why is it that Kaguya can easily merge with the Ten-Tails and spawn a new state in the form of a rabbit? Why does any of this make sense? Well, of course, this all goes back to them having a similar genetic structure, which is either by descent or they were both created to function in that way. This then leads me to the birth of the universe, which is actually stated to have been created by the God Tree, of which the Ten-Tails is just a small fragment. This implies that there’s a main body, God Tree, that spawned the universe, which means that the juvenile Ten Tails that eventually turn into many God Trees are just small fragments of a greater entity.

Now, this might seem a tad bit contradictory since it was stated in volume 1 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex that an Otsutsuki named Kami created the current world and infinite possibilities, which is actually a mistranslation. The statement made no mention of infinite possibilities. Now, what’s even funnier about this is that we’re still wrong in the sense that Kami Otsutsuki is not the name of an actual Otsutsuki. Kami actually means god, so the statement refers more to the Otsutsuki god, not the name of the god, which is actually Kami. Now, I do actually have a more accurate translation of the statement, which says long ago, the Otsutsuki became gods and were said to have used this ability to create worlds. It is the ultimate power to materialize any intent because it is fundamentally a power that only an Otsutsuki can wield. Eida is unable to control it, and the current situation is a result of her ability to make subconscious desires obviously become a reality. So the statement is more so just repeating what Momoshiki said about the Otsutsuki gods using omnipotence to create worlds, not that an Otsutsuki used it to create this world. Either way, even if it was the case that they did create this world using omnipotence, it doesn’t necessarily contradict the fact that the God Tree created the universe this world inhabits so that both things can be true at the same time.

So what I’m basically saying is that both the Ten-Tails and the Otsutsuki were created by the God Tree that spawned the universe, which is why they have that symbiotic relationship. So, if it is later revealed that the Otsutsuki can also discard their bodies and turn them into Thorn Soul Bulbs, I wouldn’t be surprised. Now, what I also found very interesting was the fact that Kinshiki was able to turn himself into a fruit to be consumed by Momoshiki. Then again, it could also be the case that Momoshiki was actually the one who turned him into a fruit using his Rinnegan. Either way, it’s fine because Momoshiki was never able to use that ability on anyone else aside from Kinshiki, even though it would have been very useful since he lost it. This likely means that this only works on Otsutsuki, which once again ties them to the Ten-Tails, which are also capable of creating chakra fruits.

Now, what I will say is that it’s also possible that the reason why Shibai was able to turn into a Thorn Soul Bulb was because he merged with Ten Tails, similar to Kaguya. So, in keeping with the Shinju, who was created using Isshiki’s essence inside Code’s karma, as stated by Boruto, it is also possible that Shibai gained that function by merging his essence with a Ten Tails before he ascended. So, in summary, Kashin Koji knows about the Thorn Soul Bulb because he saw Amado working on it. Amado himself learned about it from Isshiki Otsutsuki, who actually came across it in the form of Shibai’s remains. This is what Amado extracted the cells from in order to endow Eida and Daemon with Shibai’s abilities. Still, he likely no longer has access to this because the cyborgs he created surpassed Jigen, which was a major problem. So Isshiki likely hid the Thorn Soul Bulb in the Dakuten dimension where time doesn’t flow, which means that Kawaki will eventually locate it, and that’s what he’ll consume in order to scale above the current Boruto. This, of course, is all just speculation, so of course, I could be wrong, but we’ll see.

Now, the second possibility is that Boruto saw the Thorn Soul in the future using Momoshiki’s Byakugan. This, of course, is very popular because we’ve seen him do this before in part one when he saw the fallout of Eida using omnipotence to change reality. So it is plausible that one would come to the conclusion that maybe he accidentally used that power again, which is where he saw the information about the Ten-Tails and, of course, the Thorn Soul Bulb. This, of course, would tie into Boruto mentioning the worst possible future if the Ten-Tails weren’t dealt with in chapter 2 of TBV. So, the logic does make sense. The only issue with this, and it’s pretty massive, is Kashin Koji. You see, based on the actual words of Kashin Koji, it implies that he’s the one who saw it, and this is very backed up by Boruto confirming it with Koji, not the other way around. So Boruto, being the one who saw it using future sight, doesn’t make sense in this context, which is why this outcome is very unlikely.

Now, the third possibility is that Kashin Koji already fought a Shinju and defeated it, which resulted in the formation of a Thorn Soul Bulb, similar to what happened with Hidari. This is actually quite plausible if you somewhat change how everyone interpreted the words of the chapters leading up to this point. The first one was when Boruto said that it was too late after seeing the bug Shinju. It did seem as if he already knew what it was from the jump and what it meant by him being there. This was first interpreted as Boruto using future sight, thus knowing their existence before this moment occurred in the present time, which makes sense. But it could also be the case that Kashin Koji faced them before this moment, which is also why he knows what it is. This is somewhat backed up by Kashin Koji telling Boruto that they need to hurry and that there’s no time to spare. It’s almost as if they were trying to get rid of the Ten-Tails before the Shinju arrived at that location, which is why he then tells Boruto that their surprise attack failed and they need to leave now. This likely means that the desiccated tails that disappeared didn’t turn into the Shinju; it was instead taken by them, likely using the claw marks. This also likely means that the tree he already used to heal his body is likely the main body of the Ten-Tails. This could also explain why Boruto wasn’t surprised when he saw the Shinju popping out one by one; he was already aware of their existence.

Now, what I will say is that this theory can coincide with the future sight theory as well. It is possible that Boruto did see into the future, thus being aware of these specific Shinju, which is why he wasn’t surprised when he saw them, while at the same time, Kashin Koji fought and defeated another Shinju, which then turned into a Thorn Soul Bulb, and that’s how Kashin Koji became aware of it. The only issue with this is the fact that Kashin Koji knows the name of the item, which he wouldn’t just know by seeing the item, so they had to have learned the name from someone else, which again links back to Amado and Isshiki Otsutsuki. So the theory is very plausible, but I just don’t know if that’s the case, especially since the story implies that these four Shinju were just recently created based on their conversations in chapter 5. So, the theory is plausible, but I don’t know. You know, we’ll see.

eight tails beast

Now, the fourth possibility is for Koji to get a prophecy from the Great Toad Sage. This can make sense since the Toad Sage possesses the ability to peer into someone’s future, which was used a few times in the original series. By the Way, it’s not just that he hears whispers of what might happen; he actually sees what is going to happen in the future, which is why he was able to tell that Naruto would meet an octopus, being the Eight-Tails and also that he’ll fight a boy whose power lies in his eyes, that being Sasuke. This, of course, follows the prophecy of the blue-eyed boy who will probably come onto the Tailed Beast, Naruto himself. So, it is plausible that he saw a prophecy and had the Toads bring Kashin Koji to Mamiamoku and inform him of it. The only issue with this theory is the fact that Koji said he saw the Thorn himself, so it’s not a matter of him being told about a prophecy; he actually saw it himself. So the only way this makes sense is if Kashin Koji gained this ability somehow, or maybe he was able to connect with the Great Toad, thus being able to see the vision himself. It all depends on whatever Kishimoto wants to write. It just sounds very unlikely to me.

Now, the fifth possible option is the memory stone. The Great Toad Sage used this to inform Hagoromo of Kaguya’s past. As stated by Gamamura, the memory stone has a record of everything that ever took place on this planet. So if the Thorn Soul Bulb isn’t unique to the Shinju or these specific Shinju, and something did occur on the planet regarding it, it is possible that the memory stone has a record of that and that Kashin Koji saw it. The Toads likely showed it to him in his research on how to free Sasuke, who, as we know, has been a tree for almost 2 years now. What this also implies is very interesting because you know that Boruto’s goal was to get rid of the Ten-Tails before it evolved into the Shinju, or at least that’s the most favored assumption. We also know that Hidari was recently created, even though Sasuke has been a tree for multiple years. This is backed up by Hidari just now questioning his existence in chapter 5, along with them also deciding their targets. So, based on that conversation, it does imply that they just recently came into existence, which also means that if Boruto’s goal was to get the Thorn Bulb to free Sasuke, it has also to be the case that the Ten-Tails itself possessed a Thorn Soul Bulb. This means that if Boruto succeeded in destroying the Ten-Tails, it would have likely turned into a Thorn Soul Bulb similar to Hidari, which means that Boruto would have then used it to free Sasuke. This implies that either the original form of the Ten-Tails is a Thorn Soul Bulb or that it developed a bulb after consuming the essence of Sasuke and devouring everyone. It could also be the case that the bulbs were only created when the Shinju themselves were created, which means that using the bulb to free Sasuke was actually plan B, whereas the original plan was to kill the Ten-Tails, which would have achieved the same result.

Now, of course, there’s no way to know until it’s confirmed truly, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Now, it could be the case that maybe they need to destroy it somehow using a special jutsu in order to free Sasuke, or Sasuke needs to consume it. I’m not sure. I think the logical assumption would be that they need to destroy it somehow. Still, I do find it interesting that it was able to reform after being destroyed, which kind of implies that the Shinju is also immortal, similar to the Bijuu, which would make sense. You know, they’re Tailed Beasts, of course, but a really interesting question that I’m sure is on everyone’s mind is: Will Sasuke get a power-up by consuming this? Now, I would assume that he would because the bulb itself did form from the destroyed portion of Hidari’s body, so I’d assume that some portions of the Ten Tails’ body will get fused into Sasuke. Still, I think that only happens if Sasuke is resurrected by ingesting the bulb itself as opposed to destroying it. But, of course, we’ll see what happens.

In Boruto Two Blue Vortex chapter 12, we witness the emergence of the Thorn Soul Bulb, a key element that holds profound implications for the series. This development hints at the deeper mysteries surrounding the Ten Tails and the Otsutsuki clan. Understanding these connections is crucial for grasping the evolving storyline and the potential future revelations in Boruto’s journey.
