ย Saradaโs Mangekyo Sharingan Awakens: Darkest Uchiha Power Unleashed
Sarada Unlocks Deadliest Uchiha Power in Boruto 21
Sarada awakened a technique that no Uchiha before her ever possessed. This chapter doesnโt just wrap up the battle with Ryu; it reveals the most dangerous Uchiha ability in history and kicks off a brand-new conflict with Jura. The chapter picks up exactly where the last one left offโwith Team 7 and the awakening of Saradaโs Mangekyo Sharingan.
But we donโt dive straight into the fight with Ryu just yet; we start with a flashback. Sarada recalls her life and the conversation with Yodo that took place at the moment of her death back in Chapter 20. Why was that moment the trigger for her power? Itโs all explained in the flashback. Sarada says, โIโve thought about this for a long time. Itโs time to open my eyes to the truth.โ
Thereโs a clear wordplay here: “open my eyes” meaning both literally and symbolically awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan. She shares how sheโs long felt uneasy about her dream of becoming Hokage. That goal always seemed so far away, almost unreachable, and every time she stumbled, it felt like she couldnโt get back up again.
But instead of facing her fears, she buried them deepโbecause to admit weakness would mean admitting helplessness. And itโs right then that Sarada first brings up her feelings for Boruto: โSumireโs feelings and mine for Borutoโฆ everything I thought was weakness, I rejected. But by doing that, I was also rejecting the strength hidden within me.โ
This is a key moment that highlights the legacy of the Uchiha. Emotions are the source of their power. As Tobirama said during the Fourth Great Ninja War, the Uchihaโs strength is directly tied to their feelings and capacity for love. Sarada was so laser-focused on her goal to become Hokage that she pushed aside all her emotionsโanything that could get in the way.
When Sarada finally speaks her truth out loud, Ryu snaps, โYouโre just rambling! What are you even talking about?โ And then, suddenly, he realizes that the black vortex in the sky created by Sarada isnโt just pulling in his iron sandโitโs pulling in him. Sarada keeps going: โI wonโt close my eyes to the truth anymore. If I do, I wonโt be able to face reality, and I wonโt be able to save anyone.โ
Itโs in this moment that her Mangekyo Sharingan is revealed: Ohirume. The name references the sun goddess Amaterasu, whose full title is Amaterasu Omikami. Sheโs also known as Ohirume-no-Muchi-no-KamiโโThe Great Solar Goddess.โ
So Saradaโs black hole represents a black sunโthe collapse of a star leading to the creation of a black hole. A lot of people predicted her ability would involve black holes, but very few expected Sarada to be able to control whatโs inside them. This might just be the strongest Mangekyo Sharingan ability in history.
Caught at the center of one of these vortexes, Ryu is literally torn apart. Whatโs left is only his Thorn Soul Bulb. Blood starts dripping from Saradaโs eye. Then the scene shifts: Mitsuki runs to Sarada, who collapses from exhaustion. Mitsuki notices that Ryuโs Thorn Soul Bulb is suspended in the air.
Meanwhile, Eida, watching the battle unfold, reports to Kashin Koji that thanks to Saradaโs new power, Ryu has been defeated. Koji sighs in relief: โShe awakened her power without any issues. Thank God.โ He knew that without Saradaโs awakening, the team wouldโve lost. Eida, with a hint of sarcasm, adds, โGood for youโbut too bad for Yodo.โ Koji coldly responds, โThere was no other way. Yodoโs sacrifice was necessary for Saradaโs awakening.โ
And here, we see Kojiโs moral decline. The clone of Jiraiya, whoโs no longer clinging to old ideals, now operates with cold logicโespecially since Narutoโs gone from the equation. Yodoโs death becomes a calculated loss, a necessary price for unleashing Saradaโs power.
But Boruto isnโt okay with that. He asks, โWasnโt there a way to awaken her power without killing anyone?โ Koji replies, โIf you had rushed to save Sarada, she wouldnโt have awakened anything.โ Boruto snaps, โYou knew Yodo was going to die from the start and didnโt say anything?!โ Koji answers, โI figured it wouldnโt change the outcome. And now that the result is clear, this is the best-case scenario.โ
Just like Shikamaruโs talk about how Konohamaru used his love for Matsuri to win, this conversation raises a question: whereโs the line between necessary cruelty and avoidable loss? Koji, with his ability to see the future, knows that interfering couldโve made things even worse.
Boruto pushes back again: โAnd what about Konohamaruโcan he really handle Matsuri? Are you even listening to me?โ At that moment, Koji cuts him off sharply, like a father would: โAre you listening to me? All the Shinju are connected to Jura. If you show up in front of Matsuri, Juraโs gonna grab you faster than you can say Rasengan. Youโll die. Iโve seen it happen more times than I can count.โ
So Koji isnโt trying to stop Boruto out of fear for his lifeโheโs already seen countless outcomes where Boruto dies, and heโs trying to stop that from happening. But Boruto ignores him and jumps into the battlefield anywayโwhere Jura immediately spots him.
From what I understand, Boruto is trying to prove that thereโs still another future, another way forwardโbut itโs an extremely dangerous path. This just confirms what Iโve been thinking all alongโKoji knows how to awaken their powers and can teach them any technique. And I have a feeling that at some point, heโs going to sacrifice Boruto so that Boruto can awaken the Jogan.
And letโs not forgetโChapter 22 is expected to officially drop on May 16, 2025. It all lines up. May 15th falls on a Thursday, and at this point, leaks are pretty much guaranteed.
With that, our breakdown of Chapter 21 of Boruto:Two Blue Vortex comes to a close. This chapter doesnโt just wrap up the fight with Ryuโit kicks off a whole new conflict with Jura. Thatโs the kind of twist weโre heading into in Chapter 22, and honestly, it looks like this is just the beginning.
Saradaโs Mangekyo, Kojiโs plans, Borutoโs fateโitโs all spiraling into the darkest vortex this series has ever seen.
