Shinki and Ryu: How Their Powers Shape Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 15
Everyone already knows that the new Shinju is Gaara’s son, Shinki. But why him? What power does Jura need from the fifth Shinju, named Ryu? And what can we expect in Chapter 15 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex? I’ll cover all this right now, so be sure to read the article until the end and don’t forget to comment your thoughts.
First, Shinki has been part of the manga’s storyline and appeared during the exam in Konoha. He showed a strong interest in Boruto, which is likely important for the plot. A key aspect of Ryu’s emergence revolves around Shinki’s abilities. We know that the Shinju can replicate the abilities of those they’ve absorbed into the tree. Shinki possesses Wind and Earth elements, which combine to allow him to use Magnetism.
Initially, he couldn’t control this Enhanced Genome, but after training with Gaara, his control over it, especially in using Iron Sand, improved significantly. Shinki’s techniques surpass those of the Kazekage due to the properties and power of iron. By using this material as a cloak for himself and his puppet, Shinki can manipulate its structure to fight while remaining stationary. The Iron Sand is strong enough to withstand powerful taijutsu attacks without issue.
For offense, Shinki can create hands from it that act independently or form a massive wave to bind and crush his opponents. He can also mark a target so that his iron sand weapons are drawn to it with magnetic force. For support, Shinki can use Iron Sand to bind people or create platforms for levitation. In the anime, Shinki can use Lightning Release to create an electromagnetic field that enhances his Iron Sand.
Now, I’ll prove that Ryu and Shinki’s target will be Boruto Uzumaki. There’s a moment in the manga where Gaara notices something’s off with his son and says, “I was just thinking about Uzumaki Boruto.” Gaara then looks thoughtfully at him, and Shinki remains silent. Later, Shinki mentions that Boruto is just a regular ninja who defeated a threat like Momoshiki, showing that he doesn’t quite understand how Boruto surpassed him in an instant. Gaara tells Shinki, this is just the beginning of his journey and encourages him, reminding him that he has his path as a ninja.
This is very symbolic, as the chapter is titled Boruto Chapter 10 – My Story, where Boruto defeats Momoshiki, and his story begins. However, no one noticed that Boruto became the person who pushed Shinki into his own story. Their journeys began on the same day with the same problem in the form of the Otsutsuki.
Now, let’s discuss an interesting technique that can follow a target, which Shinki used in the anime. It’s called the Iron Sand Marking Technique. The focus on this technique in episode 61 of Boruto wasn’t accidental. Because Shinki placed an iron sand mark on Sarada’s back, she ended up losing. Shinki’s iron feathers followed Sarada wherever she went, no matter how she dodged. This guaranteed Sarada’s defeat without a chance of winning.
How does it work? The user leaves a particle of iron sand on their opponent. Subsequent attacks with iron sand automatically target the marked individual, following the principles of Magnetism. I should also mention that Ryu wears a cloak like Shinki’s, indicating he can manipulate iron and defend himself while attacking. Now, back to the Iron Sand Marking Technique.
Jura needs it for two reasons: to eliminate two problems that have plagued him since his introduction. I believe that basic Shinki wouldn’t be able to use this technique over long distances, but Ryu can because he’s a ten-tailed beast with an enormous chakra reserve and Rinnegan. With this technique, Jura will seek out Boruto’s allies who know everything about the ten-tails, the spiky souls, and Jura himself. He’s looking for Boruto’s informant, who knows how to defeat Jura and the other Shinju. And, of course, he’ll want to find Boruto himself, as he poses a danger that must be eliminated.
This has been Jura’s goal in previous chapters of the Boruto manga. I think in Chapter 15 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Jura will begin his hunt for Kashin Koji and Boruto, as they are top-priority obstacles that need to be dealt with. The next targets will likely be Himawari and Daemon, as they can also resist Jura and the other Shinju. Then there’s Kawaki, who needs to be absorbed to create a chakra fruit. Therefore, Shinki’s power is perfectly suited for Ryu and Jura’s objectives.
Those are my thoughts on Chapter 15 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex and the Emergence of Ryu.
Everyone already knows that Ryu is Gaara’s son, Shinki, as shown in the Boruto manga. I used to wonder why Ikemoto brought this character back into the storyline. He didn’t seem connected to the main events or offer any real value to the plot. But in my previous blogs, we broke down Shinki’s abilities and what Jūra needs to track down Kashin Koji and Boruto. Yes, Shinki has those abilities, and now Ryu does too. You can check out that article to catch up on all the events.
We’ve started to forget an important aspect: the connection between the anime and the manga. Ikemoto is bridging that gap with the introduction of Ryu. And the starting point for all of this will be Chapter 15 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.
Now, let’s remember who else is linked to Shinki—someone who was shown only in the anime and became a significant villain. Yes, I’m talking about Urashiki Ōtsutsuki. Shinki and others fought against him in the One-Tail Escort Arc. But Urashiki’s most notable appearance was during the Time Travel Arc, which runs from episodes 120 to 136 of the anime. This arc is not filler—it’s based on an original story by Kishimoto and was originally intended to be the second Boruto movie before being adapted into an arc. So, this was Kishimoto’s idea. Kishimoto originally developed Urashiki as the third member of Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki’s team in Boruto: Naruto the Movie, but he was cut from the film, along with Toneri Ōtsutsuki, due to time constraints.
But here’s the important part: his silhouette later appears in a flashback in episode 462 of the Naruto anime, around the 5-minute mark. This episode reveals the backstory of Hagoromo, Hamura, and their mother, Kaguya. So, by all standards, Urashiki is a canon character, and his appearance in the story is just a matter of time, even though he died in the anime.
I think the anime and manga will be connected through the characters. The differences in the plot could be explained by alternate futures. In the manga, the concept of a multiverse exists, and this could be another version of the future. It wasn’t shown in Boruto’s manga for no reason.
Now, let’s recall what else is linked to Urashiki Ōtsutsuki. We need to go back to the One-Tail Escort Arc again. This is the 14th arc of the Boruto anime, running from episodes 120 to 126. It focuses on the mission to escort Shukaku from the Land of Wind to Konoha. This arc expanded the world of Boruto across two nations and highlighted the scale of the threat. Similarly, Ikemoto is now expanding the universe, the world, and the scale of the battles.
But what was especially important in the One-Tail Escort Arc? We were shown the Jogan—yes, the legendary and mysterious eye from both the Boruto anime and manga. It’s a canonical eye confirmed by both Ikemoto and Kishimoto in a recent interview in France. I’ve covered this interview, so feel free to read it. One of the questions revealed that the design of the Jōgan will be updated with a black sclera, confirming that it is indeed the Jōgan.
But why does Urashiki’s appearance matter? There are a few reasons. I believe these events are echoing the first season of the anime. Shinki, Ryu, the Jōgan, Urashiki, Toneri—it all leads to the appearance of the Jōgan. I think these events will be the catalyst that links the Ōtsutsuki with Boruto. Urashiki could play a significant role in further unveiling the story of the Ōtsutsuki clan. His return could explain some unexplored aspects of their goals, structure, and plans regarding Earth and chakra. Since he was initially meant to be the third member of Momoshiki’s group, his return could restore that dynamic and reveal more details about the clan, including their connections to other worlds and dimensions.
I also think Urashiki’s resurrection could be explained by the fact that he left Karma on someone from Earth. Urashiki was one of the first to show interest in Boruto’s eye. His return could reveal more information about the Jōgan’s true nature and its significance to the universe. Maybe Urashiki knows something about the real power of this eye or plans to use it for his own purposes. And it’s clear he wouldn’t mind absorbing Momoshiki, since it’s forbidden for members of the Ōtsutsuki clan to kill each other. However, no one mentioned anything about absorbing a vessel.
Momoshiki wanted to create a chakra fruit from Kawaki and other shinobi. This could create a powerful storyline around Boruto’s growing abilities and his role in the future. Urashiki’s appearance could enrich the plot with new themes and conflicts, as well as help connect the anime and manga through character interactions and the multiverse. And don’t forget, Urashiki is a character who can travel through time. So, his appearance in one version of the future wouldn’t be that difficult to pull off. Urashiki could even become a new god for Code. Code was named a loyal servant of Isshiki, and he revered him as a god, being a follower of the Ōtsutsuki clan. His devotion also extended to Jigen. Despite the fact that the White Karma granted him power beyond Jigen’s, Code remained obedient and willingly accepted the limiters implanted in his body.
Upon hearing of Isshiki’s death, Code became furious and vowed not only to avenge him but also to follow his final command to become a true Ōtsutsuki and continue the clan’s legacy. Urashiki would be a fitting ally for Code in terms of temperament and abilities. Those are my thoughts on Chapter 15 of Boruto Two Blue Vortex.
